Today went late afternoon till night crabbing @ Sembawang Jetty with cy.
It was lowest tide of 1m+ at 5pm+ till highest tide of 2.5m at 10pm+
Stayed there from around 5pm till 10pm.
Today i went FULL-TIME crabbing, just brought a fishing rod, with this crabbing device(pic below).
4 bento bamboo crab trap + 1 rectangular black trap.
Bait used : kunnings, batang fishhead, prawns for crabbing device.
Explain how it works :
Alot of uncles there see liao, wah, you very lucky, fishing rod also can catch crab.
Then i tell them its for crabbing one.
The metal coil thingy is for putting your prawn bait inside.
Then you attach it to your fishing rod like a normal fishing rig system.
When you cast, the net will spread out on the seabed.
Occasionally, you might get some rocks and trash out from the seabed.
Haha, help to do some seabed cleaning up.
Surprisingly, this thing looks like a sangkot-machine, but infact, most sangkot can be pull-out and infact, it didnt really get sangkot lor.
ohh and another surprise catch!
it was my 2nd last reeling in of the net.
then it was heavy again!
this time round, it really looked like some adult mud crab!
OMG, my dream is to catch one adult mud crab…
then when i reel in more!
to my surprise, i never caught such things before.
and there’s 2 of them!
together!
it’s a horseshoe crab, or king crab!
and i just read from the Chek Jawa trip that it’s a horseshoe crab, otherwise i won’t know what’s its name.
another new species added to my collection.
and there’s something which made me quite angry.
the uncles, on seeing that creature.
quickly went to remove them and throw them into the water when i was asking them can it be eaten or what.
i wanted to like take a picture or look at it more closely first, then the uncle just abruptly throw the creature back.
ROAR.
it was quite rude lor.
and i later googled it and found out that there is medicinal value in this creature but they are not eaten most of the time, maybe the eggs.
that was what some of the other uncles told me, the eggs can be eaten.
but i was quit fed up today by some of the uncles over there.
there’s another one who came and started saying wah, so lucky today u all got so many crabs.
then he started pulling up my trap to see got crab anot.
and i just threw the trap back in and was waiting and he just abruptly went to touch my trap.
me and cy was like, huh, what the heck the uncle was doing.
and the trap was poorly casted back lor, we retrieved back and it was like toppled side-way.
ROAR.
and there’s another uncle, i caught a thunder crab, then the uncle say, this crab cannot eat one.
then i told him, can la, the pincers can eat.
then he diam diam.
haiz, act pro only.
ppl in forum and internet all say the pincers can be eaten lor.
and some other uncles also teach me say the pincers got alot of meat and very sweet lor.
and i rmb a malay guy even helped me to break the pincers for me to bring home.
sometimes those uncles see those youngster then they will think they know nothing.
but of course there are alot of uncles that are really pro and super helpful la :D
like the one from pulau bukom.
haha. taught me alot of things.
catch of the day!
(helping them bath)
caught and released many others which were smaller.
but didn’t managed to see that around 1-2 are too small and shld be released.
:(
the leftover kunnings i fed it to the cats over there.
the cats love them :D
all the stuffs were not wasted!
