watched “Quarantine” ytd with my army friends. (spoiler alert)
the movie was not bad.
just incase you dunno what the whole story plot is all about.
The story is about this apartment in Los Angeles, having people contracted with a new strain of rabies virus. The government, wanting to contain the virus once and for all, decided to totally quarantine the whole apartment and not let any souls escape from this building. The whole process of the events that happened inside the apartment was then captured by this video team who is supposed to follow the firemen in a documentary production to describe a routine workday of a firemen. In another words, the reporter and the men was suay to get caught in such situation when they were on their mission to interview the firemen la.
This movie uses a technique called “Shaky camera” to present its entire movie.
Shaky camera is a cinematographic technique where stable image techniques are dispensed with on purpose. It gives a film sequence an ad-hoc, news, or documentary feel. It suggests unrehearsed filming of reality in a situation where stable image techniques cannot be applied (this situation may or may not really apply). Thus a sense of dynamics is provided at the cost of the traditional objective of showing as "well" as possible the people/objects/action being filmed.
Several movies have been criticized for excessive shaky camera technique. The second and third installments of the Bourne action movie franchise directed by Paul Greengrass have been categorized as such.[2] Indeed, many people report that shaky camera in the Bourne series has reached beyond distraction, to the point of inducing nausea.[3] The same applies for the films Cloverfield (2008)[4], Friday Night Lights (2004)[5].
True enough, this shaky camera thingy is making us pretty giddy and nausea. My group of friends got really nausea halfway thru the movie and had to stop looking at the screen for some time to stop the nausea feel.
I was thinking if we were at the front rows or what, it would’ve been worst!
We probably will not know what the hell is happening cause we cant catch a full glimpse of the screen and maybe a x5 effect of the nausea feeling.
So i guess if you are only left with the front rows, then forget it, dont watch the movie.
And also, dont watch the movie with a full stomach.
All in all, it was quite okay for me, except for the earlier part when i couldn’t get used to the shaking camera effects.
Soon after, i was more engrossed in the whole movie then to feel the nausea feeling.
I love horror movies!
And i will categorize this movie as one cause it like some resident evil movie la! The rabies infected human is running about like some zombies lor.
Love the thrills and suspense in the movie, especially when you wont know when a zombie will come charging at the camera from a dark hidden spot.
I personally think that the ending was abit too abrupt, they shld’ve shown the video tape been retrieved later on, after all the people died inside the building and how the whole world know about this ugly side of the government of Los Angeles and how the world feels angry and pityful for the traumatic experience the people in the building was going through before they eventually all died.
Overall, if you are those weak hearted/has a weak stomach, dont really love horror movies, please dont watch the movie!
But if you are game enough and loves horror movie(anything alike) do catch Quarantine!
